Fall Wednesday Night Groups Invite Growth and Mindfulness
Highland begins its Wednesday night gatherings for the fall on August 31 with a variety of adult small groups designed for spiritual growth of the individual and the group. Because Highland believes in the faith formation and spiritual growth of all our members, we hope these group offerings will be formative and transformative, as we seek to live in Love. Three offerings will be provided for adults on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. in the church, and all are welcome to join! Reservations are needed for each class and can be made to Nina Maples, Associate Pastor.
"Celebrating Food-Eating Conscientiously" is a six-week course designed to foster dialogue about mindful engagement with the food we eat. "A Study in Romans" is a 12-week intensive Bible study that will be examining various theological ideas from the book of Romans. "Going Deeper in Faith" is a 12-week small group that will use Brian McLaren's Naked Spirituality as a jumping off point to wrestle with the questions of faith and life. Detailed information on each course is available below!
Celebrating Food-Eating Conscientiously
The objective of this six-week discussion course is to 1) explore food systems and their impact on culture, society and ecological systems; 2) to gain insight into agricultural and individual practices that promote personal and ecological well-being and 3) to consider your role in creating or supporting sustainable food systems. There will be a study guide that comes from the Earth and Spirit Center and the cost for the materials is $25. The class will meet in the Fireside Room and RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY. For more information please contact Nina Maples.
A Study in Romans
Highland's own Steve Brown will lead us through an intensive look at the book of Romans during the fall semester. Topics such as the significance of Romans, the wrath of God, justification, salvation, the role of the spirit and sacrificial love will be covered throughout the course of the study. The class will meet in Fellowship Hall and you are encouraged to bring your Bible.
Going Deeper in Faith
Does your faith feel stale? Do you long for a deeper, more fulfilling walk of faith? Do you wish you had tools that would help you make this journey of faith more applicable in this day and age? When you are faced with tough choices and questions do you have a place where you can wrestle with your faith journey without feeling condemned for struggling and posing hard questions? At Highland we are challenging people to grow their faith in ways that move you beyond the pew on Sunday and right out into the world in which we live. The groups will use the book, Naked Spirituality, by Brian McLaren as a guide although the group is NOT designed to be a book study. Signups have started and will end on August 24. The nature of the group will not allow for people to enter after the groups have been formed, so please let Nina Maples know if you are interested in joining a group.
