HBC Launches New Wednesday Night Classes for Winter Semester
On January 11, Highland will begin new classes for youth and adults on Wednesday evenings throughout the winter months. Their descriptions are as follows:
Adult Classes
Saving Jesus: This study explores the relevance of Jesus for the 21st century, and features leading religious voices of our day who share through video topics such as: Who Was Jesus, The World into Which Jesus Was Born, Teachings of Jesus: Wisdom Tradition, Jesus’ Program: The Kingdom of God, and Why is Jesus Worth Saving. Speakers such as Brian McLaren, Diana Butler Bass, Marcus Borg, Walter Brueggemann, Matthew Fox and Amy-Jill Levine will guide the teaching through video, and then participants will dialogue about the information presented. Peter Smith and Bruce Maples will facilitate. For more information, please contact Nina Maples.
Christian Simplicity: A Gospel Value: This is a new resource from the Earth and Spirit Center and this seven-session course is intended to take a look at Gospel values and see how they can be applied to contemporary life and issues of lifestyles, food, personal consumption, water, energy and transportation. It is intended to point the way toward a sustainable style of life that focuses on protecting God’s creation, embracing Gospel justice, and nurturing spiritual fulfillment. Cost for the book is $15 and may be purchased at the first meeting. For more information, please contact Nina Maples.
Youth Classes
Holy & Healthy Sexuality: This January and February, Highland’s youth ministry is leading a special series on Wednesday night for youth - Holy & Healthy Sexuality. Over five Wednesdays, we will cover the prevalence of sex in our culture, intimacy, desire, boundaries, responsibility, and do-overs. Youth will be divided into small groups based on age and gender and led by our regular Wednesday night youth leaders. The series begins January 18 in the Youth Suite 6:00-7:15 p.m. For more information, please contact Carol Harston.
