Steven Schafer Comes as Ridgewood Candidate May 30

By HBC - Posted on 19 May 2010

The Associate Pastor/Ridgewood Search Committee joyously announces their recommendation of Rev. Steven Schafer of Denton, Texas to lead Ridgewood into its new day.

Schafer is a recent graduate of Truett Seminary at Baylor University, is the son of a minister, and is married to Linsey Miller Schafer.  He has previously worked as a youth minister and a music minister.

Steven and Linsey were in Louisville for the weekend, visited Highland and Ridgewood, spent hours with the search committee touring the PRP area, and met staff and leadership.  They come with a vision for leading Ridgewood into being a community of relevance and love.

Ste

ven will speak at Highland’s services on May 28 and 30 and preach at Ridgewood on May 30.  In addition, “meet the candidate” opportunities will be provided for both churches.  Called business meetings at both congregations will be held immediately after services for a vote on Steven to serve.

Our hope is that Steven will be ready to begin by mid-June.

As a reminder, first-year funding for this position comes from HBC, RBC, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, and American Baptists of Indiana and Kentucky.

We are deeply grateful to the members of the Search Committee: Chip Miller and Doris Hornbuckle, co-chairs, along with Ruby Burke and McCray Ashby from Highland, with Terry Houchin, Charlotte Butler, and Jennifer Thurman from Ridgewood.

From the Search Committee:

“We are deeply impressed by his maturity and relational skills. Steven and Linsey are super talented and both are excited about the opportunities at  Ridgewood. We believe this couple will be a great fit both at RBC and HBC.”  Chip

‘What a lovely Christian oriented couple. I really feel the Lord has His hand in this calling.  Everything is such a perfect fit from the reaction Steven has with Joe down to each and everyone they came in contact with this past weekend.  I have a very strong feeling that God's Blessings are in this relationship.  Thank You, God.”  Charlotte

“Several times our committee thought we might have found the right candidate, but God knew best.  I truly believe God brought Steven and Linsey Schafer to us and that they will be a blessing both to Ridgewood and to Highland.”  Ruby

“I'm only allowed a sentence or two and there is no way to share my joy and enthusiasm with that!  God's leadership has been in this from the beginning and as the email I received from Linsey on Monday said, "I am sooooo excited!"”  Doris

“All praise to God for the guidance, patience, and the ability to persevere.  It was totally wonderful to meet Steven and Linsey.  I can't wait for this new relationship we get to build and the work we will do together!”  Jennifer

“I was very impressed with Steven (and Linsey) and really like that he doesn't come in with a bunch of preconceived ideas about how to do the "job". I was excited to hear that he wanted to get to know the people, the church, and there area before trying to implement any ideas or changes. I think that under Joe’s supervision he will become an excellent leader.” Terry
