Voices United for Refugees March on September 11

On Saturday, September 11, Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, in partnership with Kentucky Refugee Ministries, the Eglise Evangelique au Maroc, Catholic Charities, Buechel Park Baptist Church, and Highland Baptist Church will organize a "Voices United for Refugees" walk to raise awareness about the plight of Subsaharan refugees in Africa and how Kentuckians can respond.
The walk of 4.5 miles will start at 9:00 at Buechel Park Baptist Church, 2403 Hikes Lane, and end at Highland Baptist Church, 1101 Cherokee Road.  (A shorter option of 1.5 miles will start from St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 10:15.)

There are approximately 20,000 African refugees fleeing war and economic devastation in Africa who have come to Morocco, overwhelming resources there.  A walk is the perfect medium for raising awareness about refugees," says organizer Karen Thomas Smith, a Kentuckian serving with the Protestant Church in Morocco.  Most refugees flee their countries on foot, with only the belonging they can carry.  Some of them walk, literally, thousands of miles across the African continent."

Kentucky Refugee Ministries resettles numerous Subsaharan refugees in the Louisville area each year.  March organizers hope Louisvillians will be inspired to think globally and act both locally, assisting refugees through KRM or Catholic Charities, and globally, contributing to development and relief efforts in Morocco and elsewhere in Africa.   Information about how you can help will be distributed by walkers.

All proceeds will be divided between KRM and the Refugee Ministry Committee of the Protestant Church in Morocco.
