Youth Winter Trip 2011

By Carol Harston - Posted on 19 January 2011

BE AT HBC: At 8:00 a.m. this Saturday, January 22

BRING WITH YOU: $50 for skiing/snowboarding ($33 if you have your own skis/snowboard) or $25 for 3 hour session of tubing

LESSONS: Want a lesson?  Bring an extra $3 for a beginners lesson or $5 for an intermediate lesson!  NOTE: If you've never skiied or snowboarded before, you want a lesson!

PACKING LIST

Layers, layers, layers!  The day will be cold so be prepared with lots of layers!

Inner Layer: Long-underwear (avoid wearing cotton close to your skin since it will get wet when you sweat and then leave you shivering).

Middle Layer: A sweater, sweat-shirt, pullover, or fleece.?Outer Layer: Waterproof shell pants and jacket.  The idea is that it will repel water from the snow and block the wind.  (Jeans and sweatshirts are not recommended for your outer layer.  They just get wet and then turn cold).

Extras: Socks (preferably wool or acrylic socks), a hat and gloves (very important), googles or sunglasses (helpful when snowing or when the light is hitting the snow), sun-screen

Not Recommended: Valuables!  Jewelry, electronics, etc!  Do not take your IPOD/Cell Phones on the slopes with you!!!  As one of our group members found out before, they will fall out of your pockets and be lost for good or broken!

Definitely Recommended: A change of clothes for after your day in the snow!
