On Sunday, June 29, Highland Baptist Church will celebrate a Day of Missions. The 11 a.m. service will include the following:
Also on June 29 will be the opening of the Hanging Together: Portraits of Poverty and Prosperity exhibit by photographer John Fitzgerald in the church Commons area.
Embrace the World
During the month of June, Global Missions of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship will be spotlighted. We set a goal to exceed last year's $6000 for our annual offering. Use the green envelope in your box of offering envelopes or write in "Global Missions" for your gift over and above the regular budget offering. Check the Western Recorder pages, print or HBC website, for information about mission efforts of CBF.
The term “Global Missions” does not separate local from national or national from foreign work of the Gospel by cooperating Baptist churches of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. CBF Global Missions and the local church are in partnership to be the presence of Christ among the most neglected in a world without borders. During June our church receives the special offering for Global Missions. On June 29 we will celebrate a Day of Missions with speakers, exhibits, and commissioning of those involved in the Morocco partnership project.

An example of missions bring hope
Perry County, Alabama, is one of the twenty poorest counties in America. CBF’s Sowing Seeds of Hope effort in Perry County is making a difference. Director Frances Ford, a native of Perry County is being the presence of Christ in this effort. She employs a holistic approach toward restoration of the whole person using community development, health emphases, education, home renovations, expanded libraries and arts opportunities, sports and youth camps. Your gifts to the offering for Global Missions help bring hope to this impoverished area. Pray for Frances and for the work of CBF around the world and across the street.

The Capital Campaign Team is pleased to announce that we
are now taking requests for commemorative windows to continue the
“Cloud of Witnesses” theme in our newly renovated Fellowship Hall. This
is an excellent opportunity to honor or memorialize loved ones or to
show appreciation for someone or something while illuminating our
fellowship space. Thirty-two “saints” of the church
have been identified for our Fellowship Hall windows. They will be
depicted by Bob Markert, artist for our sanctuary windows in the
1970’s. They will be rendered with black paint fired into clear glass. |

There will be two opportunities for the congregation to
participate. The first is for those pledgers who have committed a total
of $10,000 or more during the Making A Place, Finishing The Race
capital campaign and who have paid at least 75% of that amount. If you
are interested in learning more, please contact Brooke
Schmidt in the church office or Cathe
Dykstra. A complete list of witnesses approved by the
Deacons is available from the church office. Donors to the Making a
Place capital campaign at the $10,000 level may request a window to be
named in honor or memory of someone, or a more generic tribute or line
from scripture. If you are interested in increasing your pledge or
making a new one in order to commemorate a window, Brooke
Schmidt will be glad to assist you. The second opportunity is for all pledgers interested in
including the names of loved ones to honor or memorialize in the
community windows. Two of the windows have been reserved for
commemoratives for those who do not qualify for the full windows. One
window will be a list of names under the heading “In Honor of,” and one
will be a list of names under the heading “In Memory of.” We will begin
taking names for the community windows in the next few months as our
artist, Bob Markert, completes the design phase. Depending upon the
amount of text, he will be able to use the space around the text to add
to the artistic quality of the windows. |

For many of us, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of the design of our sacred space at HBC. Please consider how you would like to participate. A short list of questions and answers can be found here as well as a request form for reserving a window.
