What does it mean to describe Highland Baptist Church as a “thinking, feeling, and healing community of faith”?

Community of Faith

First and foremost, we are a “community” based on our shared faith. We believe that God acts in our world in ways that we can’t fully understand or anticipate. God calls us (both men and women equally) and equips us to join in the work of love that will change our world. Jesus is the full expression of the mystery of God, embodying God’s love for us and guiding us in how we are to live as God’s followers.

Thinking

“Thinking” suggests Christian faith is more than a quick, easy formula. Life is complex; the issues of our day are often fuzzy. Faithfulness to God requires honest inquiry and a deep trust in God’s Spirit to apply the “old, old Story” to the challenges and opportunities of today.

Feeling

“Feeling” means that while faith is thoughtful, it is not merely intellectual. Knowing God’s love and hearing God’s call is a heart-warming experience. Real faith is felt in our bones and expressed in our actions.

Healing

“Healing” comes from the discovery of God’s love in Jesus Christ. We find peace that is unexplainable. We find strength to change and grow. We find old wounds touched and transformed. In turn, we become healers of others…“wounded healers.”
