ANDREWAndrew was a fisherman and the brother of
Simon Peter. His close friends were James
and John who were also brothers. Andrew
holds a fish, symbolizing both his discipleship
and his occupation when Christ called him.
He stands in back of a cross shaped like an X,
which is said to have been the shape of the
cross on which he was martyred. At the bottom
of the Andrew panel is the figure of John the
Baptist. Two figures stand near John in the
Peter panel. These two figures, Andrew and
Peter, along with the figure of John, recall
their being called by Christ (John 1:35-41). |
