PETER

In this panel Peter is holding the symbol of his denial, the rooster. It calls to mind the fact that even those closest to Christ can deny Him but can find forgiveness. It becomes then a symbol of hope for all Christians in the love and forgiveness of Christ. Peter also holds a key which refers to Matthew 16:19, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom..." Near the key in the background is a figure of Peter kneeling before Christ after the resurrection when Christ found the Apostles fishing (John 21), and he told Peter to "Feed my lambs, feed my sheep."
