JAMESJames, the brother of John, was one of
the closest friends of Jesus. James was
the first of the Apostles to suffer martyrdom,
dying under the sword of Herod Agrippa I
(Acts 12:1-2). Here we find partial
fulfillment of Jesus' prediction that the
brothers should indeed drink from the cup
of suffering. Near James' hands are some
of the minor figures extending from the
Peter panel. Christ is depicted standing
by the shore near the fire at the time after
the resurrection referred to in John 21.
At the bottom of this panel, Christ is
healing the daughter of Jairus. Peter,
James and John were said to have been
witnesses of this miracle. |
