JAMES THE LESSJames, the son of Alphaeus, is also called "the Little"
because of his small stature. According to tradition,
James at the age of ninety-six was stoned, beaten with a
club and thrown from the temple by the Pharisees. James
stands holding a rock and a club, symbols of his martyrdom.
In back of him is a representation of his standing on the temple roof.
