WILLIAM CAREYCarey stands holding the staff of the missionary.
He holds in his other hand an English daisy,
his favorite flower, and symbol of his great
love for botany. William Carey labored for
many years in India working to bring Christ
to that country. He was responsible for
founding the Baptist Mission Society, the
first Foreign Mission Board of modern
Protestantism. The figure to the right
depicts Carey as a shoemaker, the profession
he was following when he first awakened to
his search for Christ. The other shows the
burning of his printing house in India,
dramatizing the ordeals and trials he bore
in his missionary endeavor. |
